Αλλαγές στην εγχώρια αγορά τηλεπικοινωνιών προοιωνίζεται η απόκτηση του 19,99% των μετοχών της ΜΙG στον ΟΤΕ από τον γερμανικό κολοσσό των τηλεπικοινωνιών Deutsche Telekom. Το συνολικό κόστος του μεγάλου deal θα ανέλθει περίπου στα 2,5 δισεκατομμύρια ευρώ.

Η επενδυτική εταιρεία Marfin Investment Group (MIG) σε ανακοίνωση της τη Δευτέρα αναφέρει ότι υπεγράφη συμφωνία με την Deutsche Telekom AG για την πώληση 98,026,324 μετοχών του ΟΤΕ προς 26 ευρώ ανά μετοχή.

Η συναλλαγή αναμένεται να ολοκληρωθεί το αργότερο έως τις 7 Μαΐου 2008, και τελεί υπό την αίρεση εγκρίσεως σχετικού αιτήματος της Deutsche Telekom AG από την Διυπουργική Επιτροπή Αποκρατικοποιήσεων της Ελλάδας.

New certification process will ignite sales of 802.11n Draft 2.0 products

The Wi-Fi Alliance’s recent announcement that it will begin certifying products using the 802.11n Draft 2.0 specification starting in June is expected to help enhance customer confidence over pre-N products and therefore boost sales of 802.11n devices and help the industry migrate to 802.11n from 802.11g. Initially, pre-N routers were priced close to US$200 per unit and have only recently been slashed to below US$100. But the current prices are still nearly double the US$50 cost of a mainstream 802.11g model.

Although chipmakers Atheros Communications, Broadcom and Marvell jointly completed interoperability testing of WLAN devices built with 802.11n Draft 1.0-compliant chips from the three chip vendors at Computex Taipei 2006, consumers were still reluctant to pick up 802.11n Draft 1.0-compliant products as those products still lacked a certified mark from the Wi-Fi Alliance.

Things have been going better this year when the Wi-Fi Alliance announced in May its first-round list of chipmakers producing chips compliant with the 802.11n Draft 2.0 standard. The certified chip vendors include Intel, Atheros, Broadcom, Marvell and Taiwan-based Ralink Technology.

The upcoming certification process will not only certify interoperability for products using the 802.11n Draft 2.0 standard, but also backward interoperation with products certified for previous 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g standards. Products that are certified will display a new logo to let customers know that they have been certified.

Με επιτυχία ολοκληρώθηκαν σήμερα οι εργασίες του 2ου τριήμερου διεθνούς Συνεδρίου της ΕΕΤΤ με θέμα “Οι Παγκόσμιες Δυναμικές του Ευρυζωνικού Διαδικτύου- Εxploring the Global Dynamics of Broadband Internet” στο οποίο φιλοξενήθηκε και το AWMN.

AMD packages the Sempron 2100+ in a Socket S1 package. The Sempron 2100+ is compatible with the AMD M690T chipset. The new Sempron 2100+ is the first embedded targeted processor from AMD to feature AMD64 technology.

Licensed wireless network using Bluetooth technology for marketing purposes

The Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commision allowed Fluid Ltd to deploy a Wireless Network in the 2.4GHz zone, using Bluetooth technology.

Fluid Ltd. is the only company licensed by the H.T.P. Commision, using proximity marketing methods in wireless networks with bluetooth and infrared technologies. The only requirement for the end-user is to enable Bluetooth connectivity on his/her mobile unit.

No need to register your Wi-Fi antenna

The Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commision (abbreviated EETT in greek) decided the exclusion of the obligation to register the use of wireless antennas.

This decision is considered to help small businesses and other parties to expand in wireless applications, mainly in providing Internet access. Moreover, it will accelerate the growth of wireless network communities, accomodating the promotion of wireless internet services.

4th European Social Forum, Athens - Greece, May 2006

The 4th European Social Forum will be taking place in Athens-Greece
on the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th of May 2006. It will be supported by Hellenic Linux Users Group
(Hel.L.U.G.) and Athens Wireless Metropolitan Network (AWMN), in terms of supplying
and supporting workstations and local network running on Linux and
Open Source Applications. 2 more servers supporting LTSP and streaming will be available.

For the preparation of the Forum, AWMN will provide hotspots for internet
and its own network services.
